The University of Burundi Press: Craps for Dummies

Basically, craps is a back and forth game between the players and the casino house where each side is balanced and equal--with a slight advantage (2.78%) given to the house at the Pass Line and Don't Pass Line bet area. If you bet the Pass Line and the Don't Pass Line bet, the chances of landing on a 12 is 1/36 (2.78).

Most Players play the Pass Line Game; they are betting that the player will roll a 7 or 11 on the come out roll or will make the point once the point is made. The chances of rolling a 7 or 11 on the come out roll less the chances of crapping out is 4/36 (11.11%). The Pass Line shooter has the advantage only on the come out roll. One the point has been made, the Pass Line shooter has a disadvantage of 12.5% against him, giving rise to the so called 1.4% advantage the house has over the Pass Line better.

All of the experts say to always place a free odds bet once the point has been made. This is the stupidest advise you can give. Never place a free odds bet if the odds are against the bet. If you are a Pass Line Better, the odds are always against you. Most people do not last 10 minutes at a game of craps. They read the books and they read the rules, and they lose money.

In the American game of baseball, a switch hitter is a person who can bat right handed or left handed.

In the game of craps, a switch hitter is a person who can switch between a Pass Line Better and a Don't Pass Line Better and place free odds bets and make money at the craps table.

If a craps table is running cold, it may take 12 hands of dice play before the table is warm enough to place free odds bets on the point that was made. Most people would rather lose their money than to switch sides to the Don't Pass side of the table.

Four straight hands of a hot table is a 1 out of 10 event. If the Don't Pass better doesn't make the switch, he will lose his money laying 2:1 odds on a 4 and 10 bet that hooked up with the shooter. All of that money that was racked up being a Don't Player is out the window unless he walks away with his winnings or makes the switch to the shooter's side of the table.

On a cold table, the Pass Line Better has about a 7 in 20 chance of making his or her point. This is the time where the better should be on the Don't side of the table.

As was said before, the come out roll places the advantage on the side of the shooter in a Pass Line better situation. The Don't Pass better negates this advantage by placing a bet on the C & E (Craps and Eleven). On a $10 C & E bet, the true cost of the bet is $2. You are betting $5 on the bet that a Eleven will be thrown (Payout: $75) and a $5 bet on the E that a craps will be thrown (Payout: $35). If you bet $20 on the Don't Pass and a Craps number was thrown, your payout would be $55. If you bet $20 on the Don't Pass and an Eleven was thrown, your payout would be $55. If you placed the bet of $10 on the Big Red (Any Seven), your payout would be $20 if a Seven was thrown on the come out roll. You have spent $10 for coverage and you are still vulnerable if a Eleven is thrown. For two dollars of coverage on two bets (C&E), a large advantage is gained on the come out roll for the Don't Pass Player.

The chances of rolling craps and eleven is the same as for rolled a seven. Craps is a game of percentage and odds.

Don't Pass Bets:

Points 6 & 8: If you are just starting your game and your bank of casino money is zero, do not lay odds on a 6 or 8 point. If you have made money at the craps table: lays odd of $11 or $22.

Points 9 & 5: If you are just getting started in your game lay odds of $25 on a $20-35 Don't Pass bet. If the table is running super Cold and you have money in the bank (Casino Money), Lay Odd of $50 on a $20-$35 Don't Pass bet.

Points 4 & 10: Always Lay Odds of $30 dollars on a $20-35 bet.

Pass Line Bets: $20-35

Most of the time you are going to be on the Pass Line to check out the weather. Just making a bet and placing no odds is checking out the odds. If the table appears to be running warm or hot, you can go up to 1X odds on the 5,6,8, and the 9 points. On the 4 & 10, you take odds of 1/2X of a $20-35 bet.

If the point has been rolled and the point has been made on the first or second or third roll, it might be a good idea to be on the Pass Line side of the players fence.

Likewise, if you are hit with a seven on the first two roll of the dice after a point has been rolled, it might be a good idea to switch over to the Don't side of the player's fence. You don't have to lose a lot of money to get good at this game. It is a game, and you can practice it at home or with your friends. You can have crap parties and teach your friends how to play the game.

Las Vegas is a town of poor gamblers. Poor gamblers are losers at the game. Addicts are people who have once hit it big, but don't know the odds and the percentages of the game. They are superstitious people. They believe that the craps gods can be for you or against you. They believe that the outcome of the dice is determined by the shooter. They believe that there are good shooters and bad shooters.

If you consistently make money at home in a craps game, you are ready to take the university show to a casino.

GOOD LUCK!
